The Tangent Flight Computer Simulator
The FG1 Final Glide Page
The subject of final glide is an interesting one. I am currently working
on an article for publication in free flight magzines. After publication that
article will appear here.
In FG1 the S2F prompt (G+), Climb, Wind, Altitude and
Airspeed are the same as on FLT1 or FLT2.
- fCL
is the final climb field. This field shows two different
pieces of information depending on the whether the Tangent is
in Glide mode or Climb mode. Calculation of the Altitude
Required is based upon what is shown in this field. While
climbing it shows the averager (same as AvX on page
FLT2.) While gliding it shows the Nxt field
value (the speed ring setting.) Changes can be made to this
field and will change the Nxt field in the FLT1 and FLT2 pages.
- DG is the Distance to Goal. This will increment in
.2 mi or km. Holding the + or - will cause it to change in 1
mi or km increments.
- Wind is as in FLT2. This field must be very
carefully estimated or entered conservatively. Errors on the
wrong side here will put you on the ground.
- 8194req is the Altitude Required to make goal.
When this field is lower than your Altitude then you can make
goal. This assumes that your estimate of DG and Wind are
accurate. It is calculated based upon the current wind
setting, distance to goal, and either the averager or the
Nxt setting, depending upon what is shown in fCL.
